The 129th Remembrance Day of Mata Savitribai Phule was observed with great reverence and solemnity at Atomic Energy Central School No. 1 (AECS-1), Tarapur on 10 March 2026 — her death anniversary.
The Principal and staff members paid heartfelt floral tributes to the garland-adorned portrait of Mata Savitribai Phule and lit incense sticks as a mark of deep respect to the pioneer of women's education in India.
Savitribai Phule (3 January 1831 – 10 March 1897) was India's first female teacher and a pioneering social reformer from Maharashtra. Along with her husband Jyotirao Phule, she founded the first girls' school in Pune in 1848 and dedicated her entire life to education for women and marginalised communities.
She fought courageously against caste discrimination, child marriage, and the oppression of widows, leaving an indelible mark on Indian history as the Mother of Indian Feminism. Her teachings of equality, compassion, and the transformative power of education remain as relevant and inspiring as ever.
The programme was held in the school premises. The Principal, along with senior staff members, performed a solemn tribute ceremony at the beautifully decorated portrait of Mata Savitribai Phule, adorned with marigold garlands. Incense sticks and candles were lit in her honour.
The staff members expressed that the teachings of Mata Savitribai Phule — equality, compassion, and the transformative power of education — remain as relevant as ever, and that her spirit continues to guide AECS-1 in its mission to provide quality education to all children.
The Principal emphasized the importance of education and social justice — values that lie at the heart of Mata Savitribai Phule's life and legacy — and urged the school community to carry her vision forward with dedication and pride.
"Go, Get Education — Be Self-Reliant, Be Industrious — Work, Gather Wisdom and Riches."
